Desmond Wee is Professor of Tourism Sciences and Spatial Theories and Head of International Tourism Management at Karlshochschule International University. His research interests lie in contextualizing tourism as performance in the everyday and using interdisciplinary, reflexive and visual approaches to explore notions of embodiment and intimacies. These aspects were developed during his Doctoral research at the Centre for Tourism and Cultural Change in Leeds and his fieldwork as Lee Kong Chian Research Fellow at the National Library in Singapore. Desmond currently lectures in modules in ‘Critical Tourism’ and ‘Culture, Markets and Consumption’ and sees the need to take students outside of the classroom ‘on tour’ to understand how tourism is practiced. His latest project asides from ‘Touring Consumption’ was the Emerald Forest simulation platform in which students from partner universities across Europe competed in teams to conceptualize and run a hotel.
